No Thanksgiving Day Surprises
Posted: November 23, 2007

I'm sure that most of you did the same thing that I did on Thanksgiving Day......fix your food, get out the t.v. tray and grab a cozy spot in front of the television to see all of the football action that was to unfold right before our eyes.  I don't know about everyone else, but I was very disappointed.  First of all the best game was the first game.  The best games should be reserved for after 8:00 pm.  Second of all these games were barely enough to keep me glued to the television.  Every prediction that I (along with the rest of the world) made was accurate.  What is this?  I'm not sure, but it is not Thanksgiving football.

This is supposed to be the time of year when everyone is attempting to retain their top position for the play off game or they are attempting to battle their way into the top spot.  This Thanksgiving was different.  Who didn't anticipate that the Colts wouldn't have a stampede across the falcons in Atlanta? Who didn't believe that the Cowboys wouldn't wrangle the Jets? And who didn't have faith that Favre's fairytale wouldn't continue?  The only game that posed even a small threat to the best team was the Detroit Lions against the Green Bay Packers, but other than that I could not even hold one of my great debates with friends or relatives because we were all in agreement that the top teams that day would walk away victorious.

So, for those who live under a rock (or were forced to do family stuff that didn't involve football, God forbid), the Packers, Cowboys, and Colts were the winners on Thanksgiving Day making life for the Lions, Jets, and Falcons more difficult.  I guess that it only made life more difficult for the Lions really since they are second in their division to the Packers, but all hope was lost long ago for the Falcons and the Jets (the Jets are in a division with the Pats and the Dolphins if that tells you anything).

So, no one could really be impressed with anyone's Thanksgiving Day predictions this year because we were all accurate.  Maybe next year we will have some games that actually make us want to fight off that lazy feeling after we have stuffed our faces.  This week's most exciting game appears to be the Jaguars and Bills.  I know that is pretty pathetic, but at least this season we can say that the boys have been separated from the men.
