Will The Real M.V.P. Please Stand Up?
Posted: January 15, 2008

It is official. I have said it before and it became a proven fact on January 12, 2008. Randy Moss deserved the league M.V.P.
Yes,
Tom Brady is a great, no scratch that, Brady is an amazingly
spectacular quarterback, but the success that he achieved this season
was because of one man. Randy Moss. Randy Moss has given the Patriots
a perfect season. Without him the Patriots would be great, but not
undefeated. Without him, Brady, Welker, Maroney, and Stallworth would
be doing a great job, but their numbers would be nothing close to what
they are this season.
Moss only had one reception for 14
yards against the Jaguars, but again, that is why he deserves the
M.V.P. The reason for his one reception was because of the double and
sometimes triple coverage that was being put on him which created a
wide open field for Brady to do what he does best…find an open man. It
is such a catch 22. What can you do against that offense besides keep
them off of the field? You can choose what the Jags and so many other
teams have tried, which is the double or triple coverage of Moss, but
it leaves several open opportunities or you can choose to have Moss go
one on one with your best corner, but seriously Moss is more athletic
than the best corners in the league.
So, what can a team do
to defeat Goliath? Pray. Pray hard. I do not have the answer. Teams
have come so close in the past few weeks, but no one can get it done.
At this point I can see them easily bulldozing over the Chargers and
after that they will meet up with either the Packers or the Giants in
the Super Bowl. The Giants will be an easy, walk-in-the park type of
victory for the Pats. The Packers may be a bit harder. I would love
to see Brett walk away with a ring, but really it appears as if after
two more games, I will be able to tell the stories of how I was alive
to witness a perfect season. I am thrilled that this season has been
one of the best because of so many teams. I wish that every season
could be this amazing. The only thing that deeply saddens me is that
it will all be over in February. I do hope that on February 3, 2008,
Randy Moss will be named the M.V.P. of the Super Bowl. It will not
right the wrong that has been committed, but at least it will
acknowledge the mistake that was made.
